As we enjoy the holiday, it is worth remembering that independence is not a permanent condition. It is secured, defended, and renewed by generations of Americans willing to bear extraordinary burdens in its defense.
To the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Guardians, Coast Guardsmen, intelligence professionals, first responders, and their families: thank you for the sacrifices you make—often unseen—to preserve the freedoms the rest of us sometimes take for granted.
