Good morning!

The hits keep coming at the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Let’s start with the news that Secretary Hegseth reportedly had an unauthorized, unsecured line—known as a ‘dirty line’—separate from the Non-classified Internet Protocol (IP) Router Network (NIPRNet) that the DoD uses for accessing unclassified websites. Dirty lines provide access for specially trained individuals to access sites that the Pentagon might otherwise have blocked. For example, counter-terrorist intelligence collectors may use a dirty line to monitor Al Qaeda chat groups, or public affairs specialists may monitor certain social media sites during operational events to watch for leaks or negative exposure. Regardless, these individuals are trained and gain special permissions.

Secretary Hegseth allegedly used his dirty line to post to Signal, including the classified information that Army General Michael ‘Erik’ Kurilla sent him on classified networks about the Houthi strikes last month.
